On October 18, 2005, the St. Augustine Record reported that Girls Inc. had plans to come to St. Augustine. The Task Force on the Status of Women and Children had invited Girls Inc. to St. Johns County. On the surface this organization seems to be very worthwhile; in actuality it is nefarious. Girls, Inc.'s teachings on sexuality are diametrically opposed to our values and those of conservative Christians.

The following quotes are from the Girls, Inc. website (www.girlsinc.org):

  • Girls, Inc. on abortion- "Girls Incorporated supports a woman's freedom of choice, a constitutional right established by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1973 in Roe vs. Wade"
  • Girls, Inc. on Lesbian, Bisexual, and Questioning Identities (Resources for Girls)-"In fact, girls who know they are gay at an early age may have particularly high self-esteem"

Girls Inc. offers its programs in churches, schools, hospitals, and other locations to girls as young as six years old. The first seminar by Girls Inc. was scheduled for January 28, 2006, at Flagler Hospital. Flagler Hospital decided to not host the meeting.

Girls Inc. and Planned Parenthood are established in the Duval County schools claiming that their programs reduce pregnancy and STDs. Those supporting Girls Inc. claim that they brought it to St. Augustine because of the high rate of STDs in the county. The truth is revealed by statistics from the Florida Department of Health (see Florida Factsheet).

According to the Florida Department of Health statistics, in 2004 the St. Johns County total Gonorrhea, Chlamydia and infectious Syphilis rate per 100,000 is 94.6. This is the second lowest rate in the State of Florida. Duval County's rate was 770.5 which is the third highest in Florida.

Duval county has the 18th highest rate for syphilis in the USA.

Duval County had 8391 abortions in 2004, one of the highest rates per population in the State, and had the highest rate of second trimester and later abortions.

The mother of the Task Force on Women and Children is the Women's Giving Alliance. In 2004, this group issued a report named "Voices Heard." (http://www.womensgivingalliance.org/downloads/voicesheard.pdf) A quote from their Reproductive Health Chapter: "If you cannot control your reproductive life then you are really not much more than chattel. Women on the First Coast suffer from a decided lack of reproductive freedom. Only in Duval County can women obtain an abortion or receive abortion counseling."

Without doubt, Girls, Inc. will harm our children. You can help! How?
