The Sanctity of Life
from Conception until Natural Death
Who We Are
In the summer of 2005, word was out that Planned Parenthood was looking for a medical director for a connection in Saint Augustine, Florida. Dr. Michael Sanders, M.D. and Rafael Ortega both understood the effect this would have on the Saint Augustine community. The detrimental effect had to be communicated with others.
Dr.Sanders then began a month long effort to research Planned Parenthood including reading their literature, perusing their web sites around the country. He also spent some time learning about their foundress, Margaret Sanger.
Confirming the Horror
The research confirmed unbelievable extension of the Eugenics movement of Ms. Sanger and a culture of death so bleak, it took me by surprise. Having practiced as a physician for 24 years, and having served in the Vietnam War, Dr. Sanders thought he was prepared for most anything. But he was unprepared for the results of his research.Margaret Sanger's early movement actually encouraged eliminating entire groups of people because they were not intelligent enough, or their contribution to society was not significant! If you look at the abortion statistics over the last 32 years, you find a disproportionate number of black babies have in fact been killed! And if you add up all the reported abortions the number approached 44 million! Staggering!
The First Meeting
The Culture of Life USA held its first meeting. Five people sat in Dr. Sanders' office and wondered how it could be possible to oppose a large organization with funding not to be equaled, and allies that would be fierce in their defense. The more the group talked, the more obvious it was that Truth was with the group, and if others knew the truth of abortion and Planned Parenthood's motives, the outcome would clearly be in our favor! We decided that night to challenge Planned Parenthood to a debate.
The search was on. We discussed this with a group from American Life League, STOPP International. STOPP International is a group which has been battling Planned Parenthood since the mid 1980's, and they were willing to come to Saint Augustine, Florida at their own expense and conduct a conference to educate the area about Planned Parenthood and show the Culture of Life USA how to be successful in keeping them out of the community.
Over the next weeks, our group grew from 5 to 115 with volunteers appearing daily! Culture of Life USA - we are lawyers, judges, doctors, teachers, priest, ministers, business men and women, homemakers, retired citizens, high school students and others who have banded together for one cause. We are Buddhist, Catholic, Hindu, Jew, Muslim and Protestant. In the space of 4 weeks, Culture of Life USA arranged for a conference at the World Golf Village.
It was at the World Golf Village that we presented our position and invited Planned Parenthood to defend theirs. They declined two invitations for public debate, and did not attend the conference.
